Happy Nurses Week 2020.

We are nurses.We are proud of the work that we do.And our patients need us more at this critical COVID19 PANDEMIC time than ever.Nursing is a profession that is within healthcare system.Nurses focus on the care of individuals, families and communities.Nurses provide care independently and also interdependently with doctors. Nurses promote and maintain ultimate quality of life.

My name is Jenny and I will be your nurse today from 7am to 7:30 pm. Your breakfast will be served at 0730am.I will perform your physical assessment at 08am,give your medication as ordered at 09am including your antibiotics intravenously. At 10am I will change your dressing.I will check on you every one hour.And we go from there. Do you need anything?.Bed place in a low position and locked, call light within reach,patient table tidy up and clean, urinal emptied. Assess for the three PPPs before leaving patient room. ( pain,potty and personal belongings)Medicate patients for pain. Assessing pain level from a scale of zero to 10.The hallmark before medication is given is to check for the eight rights.The right patient,right doctor,right order,right dose,right route,right time,right reasons,right duration and the right documentation.

Check lab results,notify the doctor immediately for critical lab values.

Do your patients need blood transfusion,electrolyte replacement?.

Call and notify the doctor for change in condition. Prepare patient for surgery,preoperative checklist, preoperative evaluation, educate patient and perform CHG bath,use of incentive spirometry and deep breathing. The list goes on.Thank God is 24/7 service and there is always continuity of care.
