AIDET is a communication framework designed for healthcare professionals to use when interacting with their patients to minimize anxiety, minimize frequent hospitalization,improve clinical outcomes since patients will be more compliance with their plan of care.
A= ACKNOWLEDGE :You greet patient by calling their name, and make eye contact.By making eye contact and communicating you are telling the patient and family that you care.Take the time to show common courtesy.
I = INTRODUCE: You introduce yourself. My name is Jenny,I am a Registered nurse. I will be your primary nurse from 07am to 3:30pm.Right now I want to ask you a few questions about yourself so that we can plan your nursing care together. You response will be treated confidentially. It’s okay for you to answer what is comfortable with you. I have been a Registered nurse for over 15 years.Let me know if you need anything. Show calm ,professional caring attitude. Show that you care.
D= DURATION: The doctor will be doing their routine rounds by 08am,breakfast will be here at 07:30am.I will start passing medications at 09am.Case manager will be here at 09am.Physical therapist at 10am.Recognize and promote other team members.
E =EXPLANATION: At 07:30am will be breakfast,08am assessment and vital signs after you have finished your breakfast, at 09am,your morning medication administration, you also have medication at 10am.11am MRI of your right shoulder .You will fill out the MRI questionnaire for me please. At noon is your lunch. But I will check your blood sugar and take your vital sign again before you eat.Be totally present with patients in your care.
At 1pm the Registered Dietitian will be coming to talk to you about your nutritional needs and how to prepare your meal.At 2pm EVS that is the housekeeping will be coming to change your blind.Do you have any questions for me?.
