THE RULE OF 15.

Have you heard of the rule of 15.

As a Registered Nurse.

Or as a diabetic patient.

The rule of 15.

Is for low blood sugar.

The blood sugar is less than 60.

Give 15gram of rapid Carbohydrate.

Three tablespoons of sugar mix in water.

3 hard candies if patient is awake.

4 glucose tablets, soda or milk.

In the hospitals most often.

The doctor orders 50% dextrose

As a standing order.

Wait for 15minutes.

Recheck blood sugar.

If result is between 60 to 90.

Give snacks consisting of protein, carbohydrates and fat.

If it is still below 60.

Repeat the 15gram of carbohydrate.

And check sugar in 15minutes.

Take care of your low blood sugar.

Don’t let it be a pattern.

Prevent Hypoglycemia.

If your insulin injection is high.

Talk to your doctor.

Adjust your insulin injection.

If your diabetes medication is high dosage.

Talk to your doctor.

Eat before medication or injecting insulin.

Eat balance meals three times a day.

Don’t ignore symptoms.

Don’t inject insulin or take medications.

If you are not going to eat.

Is your meal balanced.

Protein, fat and carbohydrate.

Get educated on your diabetes.

Frequent low sugar is not good.

Have a balanced meal.

Three time a day balanced.

Hypoglycemia not Medical Emergency.

It should not be Medical Emergency.

Don’t make it so.
