WHAT IS BODY MASS INDEX VERSUS WAIST HIP RATIO (WHP).

BMI is known as BODY MASS INDEX which is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by height in meters.

High BMI is an indicator for a person’s high body fat.

Doctors use it to see if you are overweight .

Does the overweight put you at risk?.BMI will calculate your weight to your height.

BMI =Weight in kilograms divided by height in meters. (2.2lbs= 1 kg)(39.37= 1m)The BMI is a ratio of height to weight. And can reflect the total fat stored by the body. The desire BMI for various age groups and body frames are different.And a person is overweight if weighs 10 to 20% more than idea.Obese if 20% above idea body weight. Idea body weight is 100lbs for the first 5feet.And 5lbs for each additional inch in women.

Men is 106lbs for the first 5lbs and add 6lbs on each 1inch.This is according to literature.

While WHP measures the ratio of your hip circumference. It determines how much fat is accumulated in your waist. People who carry more weight around their abdomen than their hips may be at a higher risk of developing certain health conditions.

Waist hip ratio(WHP) is the ratio of fat you have stored on the abdomen and fat stored around the hips. This is a very important ratio because if there is an increase in this ratio. There are risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, heart attacks, hypertension.The WHR = Waist circumference in centimeters divided by Hip circumference in centimeters.

The waist measurement is taken at the smallest circumference above the umbilical. And the hip is measured 7inches below the waist at the widest part of the hip.

Those who carry weight around their waist are more likely to develop weight related problems than those we carry weight around their hip.

WHR in Men 0.9 or less.

WHR in women 0.85 or less.

Greater than 0.9 in men at increased risk.

Greater than 0.85 in women increased risk.
