This is urinal that Male patients use in hospitals during hospitalization. Assist and educate patient on how to use the urinal.

The best position will be sitting patient up in bed.But if patient cannot sit down raise the bed high(safe your back), spread the patient legs and place the urinal in between the patient legs. Then lower the bed.

Do not allow the urinal to be too full before emptying.

Rinse the urinal after use very well. I don’t like the smell.I am sure that my patients do like it either. So I rinse it well with soap and water. Avoid infection.

Wash your hands.

If doctor orders a urine sample. Give patient a new urinal to be free from contamination.

WHY SHOULD THE PATIENT USE URINAL?.

I.Difficulty with ambulation. Patient is having difficulty to ambulate.

2.Surgical patients. Patient has surgery and don’t need to get up yet.

3.Bedrest. Doctor want patient to be on bedrest.Follow doctor orders.

4. Accurate documentation of intake and output.

5.Difficulty with standing and urinating.

6.Enlarged prostate. Due to frequency with urination, some patients might not want to be going to the bathroom every ten minutes. Please add what you can remember. This is all that I can remember.
