1.The doctor orders 0.9NS of 1000ml to infuse in 8hours. What will be the hourly rate?.

Solve 1000ml ÷8 =125ml/hour.

2.The doctor orders Vancomycin 250ml in 500mg to infuse in 90minutes. What will be the hourly rate?.

250ml ÷ 90minutes =1Ml÷60minutes.

Which is 250ml÷90minutes ×60minutes Answer=166.66 = 167ml/hour.

3.The doctor orders Vancomycin 250ml in 500mg to infuse in 60minutes. What will be the hourly rate?.

Solve : convert the 60minutes to 1hour.

Answer 250ml÷1hr =250ml/hr.

4.Doctor orders gentamicin 100ml in 80mg to infuse over 60minutes. What will be the hourly rate?.

Solve :60minutes = 1hour.So it will be infused at 100ml/hour.

Answer = 1hour.

5.The doctor orders Zosyn 3.375gm IV in 100ml to be infused over 4hours.What will be the hourly rate.?.Solve 100ml÷4 =25ml/hour.

Answer =25ml/hour.

6.Doctor orders Ancef 1gm in 50ml to infuse over 30minutes. What will be the hourly rate?.

Solve 50ml÷30minutes ×60= 100ml/hour.

Answer =100ml/hour.

7.The doctor orders D10W 1000ml for Mrs Malinkin while waiting for TPN to be processed by pharmacy at 125ml to be infused in 8hour.What will be the hourly rate for this patient?.

Solve:125ml÷1hour=125ml/hour.

Answer =125ml/hour.

8.Doctor Thomas Nohate orders Lactated Ringer’s 1000ml to infuse in 8hours. What will be the hourly rate?.Solve: 1000ml÷8 =125ml/hour.Answer =125ml/hr.

9.The doctor orders bolus fluid 0.9NS 500ml to infuse in 30minutes. What will be the hourly rate. Solve =500÷30minutes ×60=1000ml/hour.

Answer = 1000ml/hour..(This is bolus,one time order to be given fast)

10.The doctor orders D5NS 1000ml to be given in 8hours.What will be the hourly rate?

Solve: 1000ml÷8hours =125ml/hour.

Nursing Responsibilities.

1.Monitor iv site for infiltration or leakage.

2.Monitor laboratory results for Vancomycin level and gentamicin toxicity. High levels can affect the kidney.

3.Notify MD for abnormal levels.
