WHAT CAUSES ADDICTION?.

One day I overheard a young man said,” if I did not start drinking when my mom and my uncle passed away I wouldn’t have become addicted to alcohol. I was hoping that drinking will heal my pain it did not. But I find it difficult to stop even though it made me sick ,I vomited blood, I could not eat. My wife left with our one year old son.I still didn’t stop and my license got suspended I still did not stop.My neighbors called ambulance when I collapsed.I listened while he talked to his family but they did not believe him.Rather they blamed him for his predicaments. I sobbed internally and asked myself what causes addiction?According to Faithinrecovery.com “Addiction is a biopsychosocial disease characterized by the recurrent use of drugs or alcohol “

What is CIWA PROTOCOL and what is COW PROTOCOL?. I have seen too many youths waste away and it breaks my heart. I will love to make a difference in the life of these people both in USA and abroad.

So again what causes addiction?.In the brain there are neurons.Neurotransmitters are sent from the presynatic terminal to the postsynaptic dendrites. These chemicals will then fit perfectly within the receptor sites which is located in the dendrites.Action potential in receiving the neurons is now activated by the process. These neurotransmitters are :

1.Dopamine which provide happiness, pleasure and certain Dopamine pathway can lead to addiction. But lack of Dopamine leads to Parkinson disease and too much of Dopamine will lead to Schizophrenia.

2.Serotonin helps with sleep, good mood, and appetite, lack of it leads to Depression, sleep disorder.

3.Acetylcholine helps with movement and memory and lack of it leads to Alzheimer disease and paralysis and excess of it will lead to Convulsions.

Other neurotransmitters are:

4.Endorphins.

5.Glutamate.

6.GABA.

7.Norepinephrine .

Studies have shown that factors that causes addiction can be one or sometimes more than one of the following.

A. Chemical imbalance in the brain.

B. Past event that was not reconciled or resolved.

C. Present problems that has no way of being resolved or managed, and no support.

D. Myth that you assume to be true and might not be true.

Finding the root cause of the problem will help to move the individual forward and stay sober.

What is the source of the problem?.

The best solution will be finding the underlying cause and healing the underlying cause through holistic approach involving Group therapy, Medications, Good nutrition, Vitamins, Counseling and taking care of the overall well-being of the individuals in question. Detoxification from alcohol starts atleast from 24hours after the last drink.
