There are various types of hysterectomy .Total hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, cervix ( Vagina remains intact)Total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingoophorectomy (TAH-BSO)Which involves the removal of uterus, fallopian tubes,and ovaries. Radical Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the ovaries, oviducts,lymph nodes,lymph channels removed including cervix and uterus,as well as TAH-BSO.It is usually done through a large incision in the abdomen.
Subtotal hysterectomy is the removal of only the fundus.
Nursing Responsibilities are:
1.Assess for hemorrhage.
2. Infection.
3.Thrombophleitis. If ovaries are removed Estrogen Replacement Therapy ( ERT) may be needed. Talk to your doctor and follow doctor orders and instructions.
