THE DAY OF SURGERY FOR YOUR RIGHT OR LEFT KNEE REPLACEMENT.

1.You have been NPO past midnight as ordered by the doctor and consent signed. Blood pressure medication taken with sip of water the morning of your surgery. Do not take diabetes medication on the day of surgery. Talk to your healthcare provider.

2.You should come to the hospital atleast two hours early. This gives you time to check in with the receptionist.

3.Bring your personal belongings such as toothbrush, toothpaste, lose clothes,,watch,phone,slippers,flat shoes, copy of advance Directive, insurance card, and driver license.( Jewelry, and valuables should be left at home)

4.The hospital receptionist will ask for your driver license, and your insurance card.He or she after asking you few questions will give you the forms to sign.He or,she will print out your armband and stickers that will be used while you are hospitalized.

5.Also ask for the name of the person that brought you to the hospital and give him or her papers to sign.

6.Nurse will prep you,start IV and ask few questions. Get you ready for operating room.The affected knee and site marked.

7.You will be whisked in for surgery after every information has been gathered. Operating room nurse,the surgeon, and anesthesiologist have all spoken with you to make sure that you are in same page. You have been practicing:Turning, Coughing,Deep breathing and use of incentive Spirometer.
