After your knee surgery you were in postoperative care for 45minutes to 60minutes.

Physical therapist ambulated you to the bathroom to urinate and to see if you can use your front wheel walker.The nurse gave you ice chips with sip of water and you tolerated well.


You have a big dressing on the affected knee. Keep it dry and clean. Wear your knee immobilizer as ordered for atleast 48hours to protect your surgery. May remove immobilizer during exercises.

Apply ice to help you feel more comfortable,reduce swelling and inflammation.

Diet: Resume your diet and your medications as ordered by the doctor. Antibiotic: Take your antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor.

Resume activities such as walking with knee immobilizer in place. Use your front wheel walker. Prevent falls by the removal of all obstacles on your ways.

Shower: No shower 🚿 or bathtub.But you can sponge bath.

Wound Care : Keep your wound covered for ten to 14days after surgery to prevent infection. Notify the doctor for signs of infection, swelling, increase in pain and temperature greater than 100.5F.

No Pillows: Do not put Pillows under the affected knee. Use ice pack to help with your swelling. If your condition worsen such as increased pain swelling to the thigh and ankle call and notify the doctor. Physical Therapy: Follow up with Physical therapist and start your physical therapy immediately. Take your pain medication 30minutes before physical therapy. There should be no pillows under the operated leg.

Blood Thinner: This is very important to prevent blood clots.Take it( Aspirin 325mg po or lovenox subQ)prescribed by the doctor. It is usually prescribed for 14days.Follow your doctor orders for you.

Dental Work: No dental work until after three months of Total Knee Arthroplasty Surgery. If you have to see your dentist let them know that you have knee surgery.

NB: Please if condition changes call your doctor office immediately at 000-000-0000 or go to emergency room if no response from your doctor. If you are having chest pain call 911 immediately.

Maintain good balanced nutrition three times a day. Rest well,exercise ,take your stool softener to prevent constipation. Take your pain medication and follow up with your appointments as scheduled.
