WHAT IS HOSPICE ?.

Hospice from my experience as a nurse is when a patient has a sickness that is not curable.( terminal not curable)The doctor will recommend hospice care. The order can be inpatient hospice or in home hospice care.

It is a specialized services provided for terminally sick patients and their families. The hospice agency may be private or public.

Hospices agencies are determined and committed in providing quality care and dignity for dying patients and their families. Hospice agencies are supervised and managed by nurses and volunteers. Volunteers provide household care, physical support, emotional support for these dying patients. It is usually short term respite care for patients private care givers and families.

Patients are well taken care of till the end of their lives. During the short period the hospice patients are given intravenous Morphine sulfate drip, provide comfort to patients, nutrients and cleaned up as needed .Some of these patients may be on oxygen depending on doctor orders. Patients comfort not the prognosis is top most priority.
