The connection between patients call lights and patients hospital beds gave me goosebumps all over my skin and shook my spine when I first became a Registered nurse. It is important to note that if the hospital bed is not well connected to the wall and the call light close to the patient the patient will not be able to reach his or her nurse.So when the nurse comes in he or she should check to make sure that patient call bell ( call light) is properly connected to the patient’s hospital bed and the wall inside patient room at the head of the bed. The call light allows communication process in which information is exchanged between the patient and the nurse. “Nurse Lisa my pain is 6/10,I need my pain shot immediately .Thank you nurse “.The patient is exhausted from dealing with his pain that has refused to go away. Patient spent more than one hour in radiology department waiting for his CT scan of abdomen and scrotum to be done. He just returned to his room and wants to be relieved from pain so that he can go to sleep.

The thing that I listen to while I work is patients call lights. Listening to patients call light is very important because you want to be there for the sick,you want to prevent falls, you want to medicate your patient for pain to remove the edge and help them control their pain levels. So what I listen to while I work is my patients call bells for bed pan, personal belongings and the list goes on. And do you know the truth ?.I make sure that I sit close to my patients rooms so that I don’t miss their call light.

These cartoons are very funny and interesting but the importance of call lights cannot be overemphasized.Frequent calling can be overwhelming for the nurses.And that is why “Fair Assignment “for all nurses is very helpful to reduce frequent calling. A satisfied patient will not be calling nonstop. In taking care of patient the four Ps and the hourly rounds( AIDET) are very important.

There are various types of call lights depending on what your patient is able to use.It is not all patients can be able to use the regular call lights.
