What’s the story behind your nickname?.#Dailywriting prompt.

I have no nickname. I don’t want a nickname but there’s a story or stories behind my name. Once upon a time I worked everyday in the hospital as RN .I walked into one of my patient’s room introduced myself and wrote my name on the white board. He called my name Philomena. I responded, few minutes later while I was still in his room. He called me Wynema.I replied no is Philomena. He replied can I call you Wynema.I replied yes call me Wynema. So whenever he wanted to talk with me even when I was not his nurse. He would send the nurse to call me.With time other nurses started calling me Wynema. I told them to please call me by my name correctly. Wynema is for my special patient. With time I smiled whenever he called me Wynema even though I didn’t like it.My patient is a very sick good man.I wanted him to be happy and comfortable with me, Wynema was fine.I had a very good relationship with him as his nurse.I did whatever he needed me to do including washing his street clothes. Life is a complex process so enjoy when and while you can.

On my other job one of the nurses came to me and said I couldn’t pronounce your name can I call you Mena? .I was sad not disappointed, I replied “NO”.My name is Philomena. I looked through her eyes and knew that it was done out of malice and discrimination. She later came back unapologetic and said okay can I call you Philo.I replied okay, I will take that everyone started calling me Philo. The next day another nurse came and said I preferred Phil.I replied do you know doctor Phillip she replied yes.Okay can you pronounce his name she said yes.If you can pronounce doctor Phillip why is Philomena difficult?. Do you know that there is saint Philomena?.She replied yes.If you can say saint Philomena you can say my name. She stood there for a long time looking at me.
