The clinical manifestation of type 1 diabetes are generally acute due to the classic symptoms of polydipsia, polyphagia, Polyuria ,weight loss and hyperglycemia.Type 1 diabetes mellitus will affect the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein and fat. The glucose that accumulates in the blood will moved into the urine as the renal threshold has exceeded the normal limit. Also proteins and fats will automatically break down due to lack of insulin leading to weight loss.
I .Polydipsia:Increase in thirst. That is abnormal increase in feeling thirsty. The blood sugar is elevated ,water will be osmotically removed from body cells. The result will be intracellular dehydration ,and stimulating thirst in the hypothalamus to increase.
Polyuria: Abnormal frequency of urination. Patient will produce large amount of unconcentracted urine.
3.Polyphagia: Extremely hungry for something to eat. You eat but still not gaining weight because of depletion of all the carbohydrates, protein ,and fats stored in the cellular area creating starvation in the cellular leading to increase in hunger.
4.Weight loss: Unplanned ,that is weight loss that is not intentional. Due to fluid loss in osmotic diuretics. There will be loss of body tissue since fat and proteins are used as sources for energy.
5. Metabolic changes: Feelings of tiredness, lethargic and general weakness due to poor quality food intake.
6.Irritability.
7.Blurred vision.
8.Bedwetting in children that don’t bedwet.
9.Electrolyte imbalance leading to muscle cramps .
10.Fatty liver.
11.Abdominal pains.
12. Changes in bowel moment. 13.Diabetic Ketoacidosis may occur which is due to Hyperglycemia.
