This is a question that I am usually emotional when asked.It was a dark period in my parents lives.But I am glad that they recovered since God blessed them abundantly.
My middle name is Nonyelum which can be translated in English as “Stay with me”.(Nonye- Stay,lum-with me)
Does it carry any special meaning or significance?.
Yes it does carry a significant meaning.Have you heard of reincarnation?. Which means to be reborn or rebirth of a soul.
Well my parents believed in reincarnation.Elizabeth and Denise lost four children before I was born.They had three boys and one girl.And they died after few months on earth.But their first two sons were alive.After those two the other kids died before I came to save the day.
Rather than appreciate me for not dying like the other kids they named me “Stay with me” believing that I was the one reincarnating several times.I am not the one .I am me not them .Well I do not like Nonyelum especially hearing it from people that know the meaning. I prefer my first name Philomena which means love,courageous lover.
So they believed that I was the one being dead and reborn( reincarnate )again,again so they named me Nonyelum.I felt sorry for them but I know that I am innocent.I am not the frequent flyer that kept dying and been reborn again. But is reincarnation real?.
Why is it found in English dictionary?.
It is a sad story but unfortunately that is the meaning of my middle name .So after myself three other kids were born one of them died at a tender age of three years.In those days there was no television so they kept on producing children. Denise and Elizabeth had a total of eleven children, five alive and six dead.
