A.Smile at the physical therapist.

B.Can be placed in bed lying in prone position.

C.Sit at the foot of the bed for one hour.

D.Raise his or her foot off the bed by one inch or more frequently.

Correct answer is D.

Rationale:If patient is able to raise his or her foot off the bed by one inch frequently is a clear indication that patient has acquired enough strength to walk.

A,B,C does not indicate the muscle strength and coordination needed for the patient to be able to move the lower extremities to walking.
