Tell us about the last thing that you got excited about. #Daily writing prompt.#FamilyReunion.

There is nothing more exciting and uplifting than family members coming together to talk, eat,and socialize with each other.I was full of excitement but the question that was eating me up was if I would be able to be an active participant. With my knee surgery I realized that I will not be able to be an active participant. If I will not be an active participant will I be there at all?.Families and friends coming together allow personal growth and can be educative.

I was intimidated initially due to poor health. I cried myself to sleep with my pillows soaked up with tears on several occasions ,wondering if I would be able to participate on that day. I almost gave up but in my subconscious mind I have the spirit that kept singing to my lonely ears yes Philomena you can.The date in question was May 29th 2023 which was fast approaching. We are already in March.If you think about it not being able to be present in a family reunion should not be an option to accept. I must be there dead or alive. I tried so hard to recover quickly from my knee surgery done in February.

The best option is to bring back my self confidence wherever I kept it.As soon as I regained my confidence I threw away my front wheel walker and started walking around on my own.I stopped listening to any voice that said that I can’t and listened to only myself because myself kept telling me that I can. And that is all I needed.

1. Who are the organizers?.

A. Our leader known as the president. Financial Secretary. Who made sure that everyone contributed money (for foods, drinks and DJ)Set up committees.

2.Foods to eat.These foods ranges from bringing in street tasty foods, Nigeria delicious meals and the foods prepared by the hotel chef. The meals were delicious. We were satisfied and grateful to the chef of the hotel and Nkechi kitchen who made our taste buds to salivate for more.We wanted it to continue but that is not being realistic.

3.Uniforms to wear for the event.

Uniform was white attire with gold headgear. It was very beautiful.

These things can easily be purchased at Amazon.com. They are known as coral beads jewelry set.

4. Preparation:The Preparation included securing the hotel for the event.The hotel was secured six months ahead of the event. Women practiced their dancing moves every Saturday evening for two months. The leader of the women dancing group was chosen. She coordinated all the activities of women dancing competitions. Children practice games that they will play on that day to keep them focused and organized. Adolescents had their own special event for the day.

Day of event:People came from various part of the world from Atlanta USA, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Canada, United Kingdom,Italy and Nigeria. There are so many beautiful things about Southern California. It is a beautiful place, the streets are clean,there are many restaurants to choose from Mexico Cuisine, Indian Cuisine, Italian cuisine, Chinese restaurants, Japanese cuisine and most of these stores are very close to the other. There are also some fast foods places too.

Some family members went to the airport to pick up those coming from other states and out of the country. It was a night to remember. Foods were served and each person made hotel accommodation depending on how long they plan to stay.The organizer planned for us to be together for three days.

Most of us in Southern California live in various communities. I personally live in community with people from various walks of life. And I love it here.The party night was an unforgettable night. So many people 🕺 💃 💃 danced the night away. I sat on my chair nodded my head and moved my hands according to the beats of the music.

In conclusion I don’t have much to say rather than to thank the organizers of the event and all the people that put it together and make it a success. I want to thank myself for working tirelessly for me to be there.I defied every advice and pushed myself. Family reunion is a great thing.I thank God for bringing us together and taking us back to where we came from.
